"My husband and I had been through our ups and downs during our attempts at conceiving from exploring if the fertility was my husband's, to finding out that I had moderate endometriosis. After a couple attempts at IUI and trying "naturally" after my laparoscopy, we decided to give IVF a try. While I knew that trying to conceive in general was stressful, I could only imagine how I was going to be challenged by going through an IVF cycle. So, I decided that I needed to find a way to de-stress and that's when I heard about Indiana Reproductive Acupuncture through my fertility doctor.

"My husband and I turned to IVF with donor egg when I was told that chemotherapy caused early menopause. Three rounds of IVF and two donors later, we had suffered two very early miscarriages and one negative test. My fertility doctors were reluctant to allow a fourth cycle because they were perplexed by the three failures. Although I knew nothing about acupuncture, I readily agreed when my fertility doctor casually mentioned it. After my first visit with David, I knew that it would be well worth the four hour plus trip from my home to his office.
Many patients have described David's bedside manner and knowledge in glowing terms, and it is all true! However, what is often unsaid is that from Mary's greeting at the door to the end of a session with David or Amy, the practice provides holistic treatment with a physical and psychological healing experience that I don't believe you can get anywhere else.
I saw David and Amy once a week for the ten weeks prior to my transfer. David treated any problem that I articulated to him including migraines, and menopausal symptoms including feelings of suffocation, nausea, and hot-flashes. The results of these treatments were dramatic and improved my mood and overall well-being almost immediately. David's voice of reason and logic steadied my occasionally overactive brain during what would likely be my last attempt at IVF. "We had been trying for almost a year before we started getting "help" and then we were doing treatments for almost two years. We tried Clomid, another drug similar to it, FSH shots, inseminations, and five rounds of IVF. We heard about IRA through our reproductive endocrinologist. We were getting ready for our final rounds of IVF and we wanted to give ourselves the best chance we could so we went for it!
At some point you'll try just about anything to get pregnant, and I had done tons of research on acupuncture and the results with fertility and found some pretty strong arguments for it. "My husband and I had been trying to conceive for twenty months and had been through a battery of tests that were all inconclusive. "My husband and I had been trying to conceive for sixteen months before being referred to Indiana Reproductive Acupuncture. We had been monitoring my ovulation cycle (which was normal), tried Clomid, Clomid with estrogen and progesterone, and IUI. All fertility testing had returned normal results, and the doctors had no explanation as to why we were having trouble conceiving. "By the time I found David through a brochure at my fertility doctor's office, I had a five year history with trying to conceive using Follistim. In that time, I had one child, but a series of recent miscarriages meant I was emotionally ready to only try one more time. I had a long history with PCOS and needed fertility drugs to induce ovulation. In addition, I never had a regular menstrual cycle during my adult life.
Knowing that this would be my last attempt to conceive, I started to see David weekly in January 2009 to prepare my body the best that I could for conception. What I didn't expect was that I received a spontaneous menstrual cycle 6 weeks after treatment started. My body proceeded to have consecutive menstrual cycles a month apart. I felt like my body was finally behaving like it should, and I was much better positioned to go into another round of fertility drugs. Sure enough, the last attempt was successful and I delivered successfully in September 2009.

When I started the IVF process, I did not know about Indiana Reproductive Acupuncture. After two failed cycles, I asked if there was anything else I could do to improve my chances for success. "My husband and I had been trying to conceive for over three years, enduring eight cycles of Clomid assisted intrauterine insemination (IUI) without success. Finally, we accepted that we needed to go down the route of accepting donor eggs and IVF. This was a huge decision, and obviously an expensive option.
We wanted to optimize the IVF, implantation and success of the pregnancy as much as possible. As a skeptical medical doctor, I did a huge amount of research and discovered, to my surprise, that properly conducted clinical trials had shown that acupuncture can significantly increase the chances of success in these situations. I also discovered that David Youran specialized in acupuncture for fertility issues, and had reproduced some of these results in his own practice. So, I concluded acupuncture couldn't hurt, and there was solid evidence that it could help.
Thus, I embarked on acupuncture treatment with David before and after my IVF and implantation. I also had acupuncture at the time of the implantation procedure. At first pass, I am now thirty-seven weeks pregnant with twin girls (term for twins) and the Cesarean section is scheduled for this week!
I have no doubt that acupuncture played a role in maintaining my mental, emotional, and physical health, plus the health of my pregnancy, and babies throughout. I enjoyed David's calm, knowledgeable, professional manner, and his curiosity, personal interest, and desire to improve his expertise all the time. He was clear about where acupuncture

"We had been trying to conceive for about 15 months before visiting IRA. We had tried Clomid alone and in combination with IUI. In addition to infertility, I also suffered from Hypothyroidism and a terrible sleeping problem. I was taking prescription Ambien about three to four days per week for the last few years.
I was referred to IRA by a friend and patient of IRA, she had successfully conceived with their help. I really had no expectations for the acupuncture treatment. I was getting very frustrated with my infertility and thought I would give it a try. I was so thrilled with my treatment at IRA. "A friend told me about David Youran and Indiana Reproductive Acupuncture shortly after we found out our third IVF was unsuccessful. We were in the process of switching to our third infertility office and were in our fourth year of trying to become pregnant. I had tried acupuncture a couple of years before while living in Boston, so I was open to the idea of trying it again. My husband, a physician, wasn't a big believer in alternative medicine but figured it wouldn't hurt anything.
Within the first month of coming to IRA, we did our fourth IVF and unfortunately were not successful. I was in a state of shock because I truly believed that eventually IVF worked for everyone.
